What is the focus of this course?

This practical short course aims to develop your ability to 每

• recognise the format and content of the IELTS exam by discussing, practising and analysing each section of the exam;
• improve your test-taking skills and strategies by completing IELTS-style practise tests in reading, listening, speaking and writing;
• perform optimally within an academic context, to enter your chosen academic programmes; and
• recognise the scoring procedure for the exam, so that you may interpret your own test scores.

By the end of the short course, you will be able to 每

• skim and scan academic and authentic texts for general and specific information;
• extract information from and make references based on texts of varying lengths, such as university lectures, radio documentaries and radio interviews and conversations;
• interpret and compare data in tables and graphs;
• develop arguments and express opinions on abstract topics;
• provide information in a formal interview context; and
• expand academic vocabulary related to common topics such as the environment science and technology, health, energy, transport, education, the arts and media.

What are the prerequisites?

• You need a minimum B2/Upper-Intermediate English language proficiency level
• You may need to complete an online English placement test before the start of the short course
• If you do not have the desired level for entry to the short course, we will make recommendations on how to improve your English so that you may be admitted at a later stage

 When and how will the short course take place?

The IELTS Test Preparation short course is presented online during 2-hour sessions, twice a week over 5 to 6 weeks, with 25 hours in total.

Short courses open before the first contact or online session and close well after the last session. This allows you enough time to access SUNOnline, the learning platform we use.

 
What is required from you to be awarded a certificate of attendance?

• Attend and participate actively during all the contact and/or live online sessions
• Submit assignments, if any, by the due date
• Less than 10% absence (without a valid reason)

What is the cost?

The course fee is R4 396 per participant.

• All fees are payable before the short course starts
• We will present a course only if the required minimum candidates have paid and confirmed attendance
• Short course participants do not receive access to 万博体育官网 facilities such as computer labs or the library

Diversiteit en Inklusiwiteit in Engelse Taalonderrig

?Hierdie 3de DIELE-konferensie, wat in 2026 by die Universiteit Stellenbosch in Suid-Afrika gehou sal word, volg op die twee suksesvolle konferensies in Bangkok (2022) en Tokio (2024). Die 3de konferensie word georganiseer deur akademici van die Universiteit van York, VK, Monash Universiteit, Australi?, en die Universiteit Stellenbosch, Suid-Afrika. Die Konferensiekomitee nooi aanbieders van die vorige konferensies en nuwe afgevaardigdes hartlik uit om by die dinamiese en verwelkomende DIELE-gemeenskap by die 2026-geleentheid aan te sluit.

Die Konferensiekomitee nooi konseptuele en empiriese referate oor een of meer van die volgende onderwerpe uit. Die sluitingsdatum vir die indien van abstrakte is 31 Augustus 2025.

Die onderwerpe hou verband met die bevordering van diversiteit en inklusiwiteit in klaskamers waar Engels as 'n vreemde, tweede, addisionele of internasionale taal onderrig word, en sluit in, maar is nie beperk tot:?

• onderrig van studente uit gemarginaliseerde groepe
• onderrig van studente met spesiale onderwysbehoeftes
• leerders se unieke ervarings, stemme, leerstrategie? en gedrag
• onderwyserervarings en refleksies oor verbeterde ondersteuning vir studenteleer
• huidige onderwysbeleide wat diversiteit, inklusiwiteit, billikheid en/of behoort bevorder
• inklusiewe kurrikulum, pedagogie en assessering
• ondersteunende tegnologie?, toeganklike hulpbronne en diverse onderrigmateriaal op maniere wat nie voorheen algemeen aangespreek word nie
• kritiese pedagogie soos verbind met diversiteit en inklusiwiteit
• ouer-/gesinbetrokkenheid met skole vir die bevordering van insluiting
• identiteit, geslag en gelykheid
• billikheid in die klaskamer en/of billike pedagogie
• respek vir diversiteit en 'n gevoel van behoort in opvoedkundige omgewings
• student/onderwyser welstand en behoort
• onderwyser oortuigings, houdings en praktyke met betrekking tot diversiteit en inklusiwiteit
• onderwysersopleiding en voortgesette professionele ontwikkeling met diversiteit en inklusiwiteit in gedagte
