Accommodation for Tygerberg Postgraduate Students
RIDS | Tygerberg Doctoral Office
Please note that no dedicated longer-term postgraduate accommodation is available at the SU Tygerberg campus. Tertiary education is typically pursued by high school graduates who are either at or approaching the age of majority. Most tertiary students worldwide, and in South Africa, tend to opt for less structured and supervised accommodation. As a result, most students live in privately rented housing, with members of their extended family, at home, or in shared student communes or "digs" - and more so in the case of postgraduate students.
万博体育官网 residences, while available, can only accommodate a small percentage of students, selected based on a mix of merit, timing and other considerations. Tygerberg campus residences fill up to capacity from allocating the available living quarters to a small proportion of undergraduate students. Moreover, off-campus NSFAS-accredited accommodation is limited.
Accommodation comes at a premium in the sought after locations of the Western Cape. Postgraduate students are therefore urged to arrange suitable accommodation as soon as possible? after selection, and must secure at least temporary accommodation before arriving in the area.
Please do explore the possibility of staying with family members who reside in the vicinity of campus. Alternatively, the options below may be considered.

When securing private accommodation, SU is not involved in placement. Instead, it is the responsibility of the student to contact the owner/lessor to enquire about availability and to secure a specific space. To avoid possible fraud or exploitative practices, it is imperative to read all aspects of rental contracts carefully before signing, and to avoid paying a deposit prior to viewing accommodation.
Similarly, it is the responsibility of the owner/lessor to ensure that the accommodation meets the required standards. Those interested in offering student accommodation, please see the SU
Guidelines for Off-campus Private Student Housing Accreditation.
